Philip N. Smith

 

 

Bio

Phil is originally from Paducah, Kentucky where he graduated from Saint Mary High School.  His undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology was completed at Murray State University.  After working in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, Phil began his graduate work at Clemson University and moved on to Texas Tech University.  His dissertation research was done in western Kentucky at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.  He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental Toxicology from Texas Tech in 2000. 

Phil then joined The Institute of Environmental & Human Health (TIEHH) at Texas Tech as a Senior Research Associate.  In 2002, Phil was appointed Assistant Professor and has since advanced to Associate Professor.  Phil is an ecotoxicologist whose research interests center on ecological and physiological characteristics of organisms, populations, and environments that facilitate contaminant exposure and adverse health effects.  His research examines pathways of contaminant exposure among mammals, birds, a variety of aquatic organisms, trophic-level transfer of environmental contaminants, and population-level responses to contaminant exposure.
